SUMNER POLICE DEPARTMENT STOMP
Some crime and safety issues can be unique to big industry. Sumner’s Police Department has teamed up with the general managers and security personnel of industrial businesses to STOMP out industrial crime.
Sumner’s Tough-on-crime Officer/Manufacturing Partnership (STOMP) began with a simple conversation when officers wanted to more fully understand the specific safety issues facing the industrial businesses on the north end of the city. In turn, they wanted to share their knowledge about conflict resolution and interpersonal relationships with the businesses, many of whom have hundreds of employees. They organized a meeting, and a partnership was formed.
Members of STOMP meet once a month to discuss issues and share experiences. Signs along the industrial routes let drivers know that they are within STOMP’s patrol area. When security personnel know each other and Sumner Police, they are able to work together against crime trends, communicate and coordinate joint efforts.
