SUMNER POLICE DEPARTMENT CHIEF FOR A DAY
Every two years, the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center sponsors the Chief for a Day event. Each police agency within the state has the opportunity to sponsor a child between the ages of 3-12 who suffers from a life threatening or chronic health condition.
The Sumner Police Department is proud to once again be involved with this worthwhile event along with 25 other police departments.
I would like to introduce our Chief for a Day, Nikki Kohn. Nikki has been battling diabetes. She is 11 years old and attends Daffodil Valley Elementary School where she is a 5th grader. She was diagnosed in 2004 and is great about educating others about what diabetes means. Her favorite color is purple.
The Chief for a Day event starts at Qwest Field on Thursday, August 16th where the kids will meet professional sports players and cheerleaders. From there, they will be escorted by a law enforcement motorcade while enjoying an 11 mile patrol vehicle ride to the police academy. The rest of their day will be filled with K9 demonstrations, police helicopter landings, lunch, and, of course, the pinning of their Chief’s badge. Throughout this year, you'll see Nikki joining the Sumner Police in parades and events throughout the city. Thank you to all the businesses and individuals who are helping us honor Nikki as our Chief for a Day.
