Sumner's character comes from the fact that its citizens get involved in the community.  There are a number of hands-on ways for you to participate.

 

Volunteer The City has a variety of volunteer opportunities including one-day work parties or regularly scheduled routines, outside or inside, in groups or individually.    Become a Commissioner The City's commissions provide a way for more citizens to be directly involved in City government while sharing professional expertise from a wide range of backgrounds.    Sumner University Every year, you can learn more about your city's government at Sumner University.

Attend Meetings All council, board and commission meetings are open to the public.  Come, sit and learn what's happening in your community.   Watch Meetings on TV Even if you can't make it to City Hall, you can watch Council Meetings on TV.  This is true reality TV.   Watch Meetings Online Even if you can't make it to City Hall, you can watch Council Meetings online for up to 1 year.   Jury Duty Sumner's Municipal Court relies on citizens actively participating as jurors. Learn more about serving your community through jury duty.   Vote Make sure you are properly registered so that you can vote and have your voice be heard.

One of the greatest challenges facing government is balancing the needs of the entire community with the needs and wishes of individuals.  You can help by getting involved in finding solutions that work for the entire community.

Although participating does not always mean prevailing, it does make government a true partnership. When you are actively involved in your government, its decisions can better reflect the will of the people, including you!
